Is Windows Defender strong enough?

Hi,

I recently had a severe-level threat detected on my computer, but windows defender removed (it says Removed Or Restored) it. Afterwards, I ran several full scans and almost a hundred Quick Scans, and all reported that there were no threats. However, my computer began to slow down a lot, and it started to overheat a lot, and it even automatically shut down once. Is this a sign that there is some form of malware I should be worried about that Windows Defender is not picking up?

Please reply.

Here is a summary of the symptoms:

1. Became extremely slow

2. (ONCE) The device automatically shut down

3. It heats up very quickly even when I just on it and haven't used or opened any program

4. Microsoft Teams just randomly opens from time to time

5. Some apps don't open unless I left-click them and hit the open option in the set of options that come.

I am running a scan as I type this, and am starting to doubt the strength of WD as an antivirus software.

Please help me,

Rivi.
