Is there really no way to associate New Outlook with mapimail?

I'm trying to switch off of Outlook Classic completely, but Microsoft just doesn't seem to want me to. Right now within Word, when I click to share the document as a PDF/docx, it will only open with classic Outlook. I don't see a way to change this in the default apps setting. Is there anything I'm missing?
