internet problem with xp sp2

after installing Service Pack 2, my DSL internet connection no longer works.
Also I can't turn on my windows firewall or run some active x because it says
some things are set by "group policies". Seeing as how my account is
administrator, how do I set these group policies. I just had to reinstall
windows and have never had a problem like this before.

Quick update.. active x is working..not sure what I did, but it is working
right now. still got the problem with firewall and sp2
