Using Windows 7, 64-bit
Dell Inspiron 3520 laptop
I've successfully used the MFC-J430W with a USB on my laptop in the past. Had to reinstall (printer was deleted - my mistake). I've tried both the CD that came with the printer and the drivers on Brother's website (both full Suite, then printer/scanner drivers only), as well as trying Windows plug-and-play, all for USB.
Two drivers are searched for when I plug in the USB cable (by any installation method). Both drivers searched for have the same name, with the exception of one has a space after "Brother" and the other does not. "Brother MFC-J430W" is found; "BrotherMFC-J430W" [no space] is not. The printer shows up in Devices and Printers, but "Needs troubleshooting." It's the same thing every single time (whether reinstalling or troubleshooting): Fail - "BrotherMFC-J430W doesn't have a driver." Meanwhile, I can neither print nor scan via USB. Been working on this for over two days. Any help appreciated!
I am able to print wirelessly, but not with USB. I have plugged other items into the USB port, and they work. Everything for that printer/scanner/fax/copier works on my Windows 10 laptop (did that this morning as a last resort), but not Windows 7 on which I previously installed and used the printer for a few years.
