If OneDrive hypothetically synced a file that was a virus, would signing into OneDrive on a new laptop spread the virus/hurt the new computer?

I recently has a virus scare on my laptop and plan on getting a new one soon due to performance issues. The virus was undetected for a while (even while doing full Windows Defender scans) but once it was found, it was quarantined and removed (I assume) by Defender. However, I worry that it and/or more malware it possibly downloaded that I don't know about was saved to my OneDrive since everything automatically saves. If there was somehow still a virus/malware/etc saved in the OneDrive, could it hurt my new laptop? I have done Windows Defender full scans that came back clean, but they came back
