Every time I open a new IE8 I get a pop up that tells me error in which my

search provider is being changed and when i close that the manage search

provider apprears. My default search provider is bing and I can not change it

to anything else even if i go to manage search providers. I am runing Windows

7 Ultimate 64bit. i can not even uninstall IE8 and re install it to try and

correct the error. Windows 7 will only let me disable IE8. I love IE8 and

prefer google as search engine.

There is a checkbox which is used to request that...

Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider.

(in Manage Add-ons Search Providers).

If that is checked and you can't change it it could be because you have some

security package "protecting" your registry from update.

And if you are always getting a message it implies that you have something

else running (e.g. a Google add-on) which is trying to change the current

setting. You could try making those changes manually during a safe mode

boot (when such things would be less likely to be running.)

Good luck
