IE Doesn't close properly

Whenever I try to close an IE window or tab, it freezes and never closes. The

only way I can close it is by closing all IE windows by ending the process

tree with Task Manager. I figured it was a problem with IE since it doesn't

happen with any other program's windows.

To avoid any questions, I'm running Windows Vista, and yes I have tried

restarting many times. I even tried to reinstall IE8 but it won't run the

setup because I aready have it.

Are there any suggestions as to what the problem could be and how I could

fix it?

I don't know if any of these will help, but try some of these instead of

just reinstalling:

1. Go to Control Panel ->Turn Windows Features on or off ->deselect

Internet Explorer 8

After doing this, reboot and then select Internet Explorer again

2. I can't remember whether Vista came with Internet Explorer 7 or 8 (I

moved straight from XP to 7, so I can't remember what Vista came with), so

if Internet Explorer 8 is listed in your list of installed programs, you can

either uninstall it from there or if there is an option to repair it, you

can try that.

Sometimes this locking up stuff happens only with some random programs

because of some problem or corrupted file. I don't know if it will help or

not, but you could try running some of the utilities such as CheckDisk,

Defrag, or VirusScan. Even if these don't help, it never hurts to run them

once in a while (and who knows, they might end up finding something else?).

Other than these suggestions, I'm not sure what to tell you to do. If none

of my suggestions help, maybe somebody else will have some ideas. Good Luck!

Load IE8 in its no add-ons mode and retest.

True Vista originally shipped with IE7 but it was automatically updated to

IE8 months ago.

When all else fails dynamite appears to be the item of choice.
