Hi,

You must be using the x64 version of IE. No problems here with Vista x86,

SP2.

or

You have disabled one of your required ActiveX controls for the site. Go

Tools>Manage Addons, Show - Downloaded controls and ensure all addons of

this type are enabled.

Regards.

Hi Rob and thanks for the response. I've made sure all ad-ons of all

categories are enabled. I was actually using the regular IE that was

crashing. When I use the 64 bit, it does not crash, instead it gives me the

following error: An error was encountered during upgrade. If you are still

unable to play your content, additional help and support is available on

http://support.microsoft.com

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode?

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet

Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode [Applies to IE7 &

IE8 in all OSS]

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

3. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your

subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?

What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running

in the background when you installed IE8?

4. Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this

machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought

it)?

Hi Steve,

I revisited the site and read the same instructions for x64 Vista users as

you did ....

I have to laugh.. the link to support.microsoft.com is all but useless,

isn't it?

This Google search reveals more....

http://www.google.com/search?q=Certificate Revocation List Update Windows

Media Player Vista x64

Try the appropriate download from this Knowledge Base article...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959772 (Sorry No... not there.... no Vista

x64 listed)

Have at look at this thread at the answers.social forum

http://social.answers.microsoft.com...a/thread/eb329d2e-0f70-4b27-81bd-bbdd64b0603a

The marked answer is

don't worry..just install a third party free codec package called K-lite

codec package, live search it..

after that every file will work in your WMP11 or you can follow the above

instructions ..

Shantanu Kaushik MVP, Moderator

I am going to have to ask you to make your own choice about following the

advice in the answer above ...

http://www.google.com/search?q=download K-lite codec package

Codec downloads are well.... they are a known vector for malware/virus

infection

or perhaps ask your own question at the Vista Media forum here

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistamedia/thread

for a MSFT Software Engineer to answer.

Regards.

I reset all IE settings using this tool and the issue persists

I'm using a current Norton Security Suite. This includes a firewall and

anti-spyware tools. This application was not running when i installed IE8.

I installed Norton about 2 months ago. I have tried disabling all Norton

components and the site still won't work.

The issue in Rob's link pertains to not being able to play certain files vs

my issue of WMP crashing.

Hi Steve,

I think it is crashing for you because it is also crashing for other Vista

x64 users.

Internet Explorer is recommended because this site depends on ActiveX

technology. This site will only work for Windows Vista x86, if you are

experiencing this problem on Windows Vista x64, please contact Microsoft

Product Support. http://support.microsoft.com

ref: http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/crlupdate/en/crlupdate.html

the support.microsoft.com link will eventually take you to the Vista/Media

forum (if you don't get lost and wind up at the Win7/Internet Explorer like

every one else does) which is where(the Vista/Media forum) I found the

marked answer to a question of the same genre.

As I said, you can always go yourself to the Vista/Media forum and re-post

your question. (Good Luck...)... I just thought of a good idea for

Answers.... an "I feel lucky" button like google search.

Oh, one other thing. On Vista you can go Start>Control Panel>Problem Reports

and Solutions... there should be an issue log in there for your crash at the

site... We can tell you more if you post back with the details.

Regards.

Hi Steve,

I am not going to peruse it any further... it is out of my league.

Append your problem signature to your Vista/Media Post if you have not

already done so.

Here is the Google search I did on a key term from that problem report.

http://www.google.com/search?q=Fault Module Name: Indiv01.key

Seems to be associated with a Camcord device. Do you have ANY usb devices
