iCloud account won't sync no matter what I do

I am trying to sync my iCloud account with my Windows 10 features such as mail, contacts, and especially the calendar. It won't sync no matter what I do, I've generated an app specific password, I downloaded the iCloud windows application and everything seems to work there. I even removed the account once and readded it. When I put in the app specific password, it keeps saying that "attention is required" and it won't accept the password at all. I know this because the password I have is more characters than the one that keeps appearing when I go to manage the account. Why is this happening? it's quite frustrating.
