I want to know how my desktop updated without ever being connected to the internet?

I turned on my desktop CPU and it began updating despite never being connected to the internet. HOW? Where did it get the update from? This computer can not connect on it's own. It does not have WI-FI capabilities. It does not have an Ethernet cable plugged in. In fact I do not even have an ISP in my area. The only way I can even use it to get on the internet is to plug my phone into it via USB, and hot spot it. I have not done that in about a month. I rarely do it because it is extremely slow, and frustrating because of the weak signal I get from T-Mobile. The worst provider in the game.
