I need my product key to revert back to windows home which came with the laptop.

My school installed windows 11 education on my Surface Laptop 3.When I completed yr 12 the school told me they reimaged (removed their software) but windows education is still appearing when I log on.Do I need my original product key to revert back to Windows Home? Thanks.
