I have new HP pavilion laptop and just cannot get my battery to charge up. Everything works fine when power cable is connected ,

HiI have a new HP Pavilion laptop and cannot get the battery to charge, everythingworks fine when power cable is connected but battery power is 0% all the time.i am not really computer literate being 76 years old.Can anyone guide me on this.regardstony stanley
