I have bought a 2TB Portable SSD, but when i try download games onto it my network keeps dropping. How can i fix this?

I bought a couple 2TB portable SSD's off of ebay, formatted one to exFAT and one to NTFS, but when i try download games off steam or any other service like it my network drops every few minutes and starts again. I dont have this problem on my internal SSD and HDD. I flushed my dns, cleared all my caches and made sure it was not an internet issue. I was wondering if i needed to install a driver of some sort but could not find one online.
