I have a folder with pictures, but when I click browse in my personalization settings, all the folders are empty. Why???

When I set my option to pictures, the folder with my background shows up with the images and I can set an individual photo as my background. I want to use the slideshow. The same folders, however, when I click browse, show up with nothing in them. It won't let me set it as slideshow and I want to know why and how to fix it. I've literally been looking for answers for the last hour and I'm getting desperate.
