I’m running Windows 10. I have a playlist of songs, and I recently converted the .wma files in that playlist to .mp3 files, deleting the wmas. I then edited the .wpl (playlist file) with Notepad, and changed all instances of wma to mp3. I saved the file and double-clicked on it in File Explorer, to play the list. WMP could not find the files: it was still looking for .wma files. I went back and edited the playlist file and saw that all the .wma changes I had made had been changed back to .mp3.
