Is there a setting that would allow an oversize web page to print correctly

on a deskjet printer?

Maybe I should ask if this is an I.E. or printer setting first....

Here is the web page and when I try to print it cuts off the right side of

page.

http://www.greatriverroad.com/stlouis/bissell.htm

thanks,

Shall I just ask my psychic adviser what what version of Windows and

what version of Internet Explorer you have?

The Tarot cards say you have either IE 7 or IE 8. If this is correct,

see Shrink To Fit in Print Preview.

when I view or print.

When I go ahead and print, following the first line starting with "Daniel

Bissel (portrait left)------" the text is cut off at the mi in militia.....

HOTFIX: The right side of the first page of a printed .eml file may be

truncated on a computer that has IE8 installed (12 Mar-10)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980333

Tip: Ignore the reference to EML file in the KB title

Tip: Expect this fix to be included in the next Cumulative Update for IE8

There is a recent hotfix which may affect printing from the browser--meant

to fix problems with printing E-mails. So, perhaps you could then at least

try File, Send, Page by E-mail and print it that way?

Good luck

Thanks to both responses.

Did either one of you go to the web site and try printing the page?

Wondering if it was just on my end.

You are correct, it does not print correctly.

But this is a problem with many browsers and webpages.

You will have to tinker with the scaling factor until it looks the

way you want.

And which of the two x86 platform hotfixes would the OP apply to his

"Windows XP Home Edition" operating system?

Fix312913 = Internet Explorer 8 for Vista and Server 2008

Fix312914 = Windows 7/WindowsServer 2008 R2

[Hey, I don't write these KBs, you know. And it seems like no one ever

proofreads most of the stuff MS promulgates these days.]

Since the Symptoms section of KB980333 references Outlook Express (which is

not included in Vista or Win7), one might conclude that the x86 version

[i.e., Ieframe.dll & Ieui.dll v8.0.6001.22993] would be appropriate hotfix

for IE8 in WinXP (x86).

Note that those are QFE branch file versions & that installing this hotfix

might put you in QFE branch permanently. If this printing bug can be

tolerated for a while longer, I'd strongly recommend waiting until one of

the upcoming IE updates includes this fix.

Oops. Good catch. I wonder if the updated ieframe.dll could be

extracted and used in XP anyway? ; )

LOL...Just thought a quick reality check might be in order on this hot fix.

I would make the same assumption given the fact that they explicitly

reference Outlook Express. But when I went to the actual download site for

the hot fixes I noticed that they explicitly excluded any mention of Windows

XP.

I haven't tried one of the installers so I don't know if they do a OS check

or not before installing.

I think if I were affected by this bug your advice about waiting for and IE

Update would be well advised:o)

Good question Robert, I don't have an affected XP machine here so I can't

confirm or deny;)

LT. I tried printing your `problem page' using both IE 7.0.6002.18005 and

Firefox 3.6 but it always truncates the right portion, even if hide

`Favorites' in IE and `bookmarks' in Firefox.

Just wanted you to know. It seems like a general browser issue.

Thanks Robert.

I've got a Windows XP Home Edition machine with IE8 installed on it

available to this morning, and I can reproduce the .EML printing issue(using

Outlook Express).

However, the OP is claming the truncated text issue is arising for him when

printing the web page he sited directly from IE8(Not from and EML file).

That problem I can not reproduce here using Windows XP Home and IE8.

Perhaps we need some more feedback from the OP on this

As for the hotfixes currently available for the EML printing issue, they are

definately intended for Windows Vista and higher. The hotfix for

Vista(Fix312913) is a .msu package:

"IE8-Windows6.0-KB980333-x86.msu"

To answer your question about extracting "ieframe.dll" from the hotfix

package, I used EXPAND to extract the contents of the .msu file and the .cab

file within the .msu file. There is no "ieframe.dll" file contained in

either:

"IE8-Windows6.0-KB980333-x86.msu"

or

IE8-Windows6.0-KB980333-x86.cab

I'm not going to waste any more printer ink or paper testing this issue, if

Microsoft releases a hotfix for the EML printing issue for Windows XP and

IE8 then I'd be happy to test it some more:)

Strange. I don't know anything about .msu.

I don't have a real printer. I used XPS Document Writer and then opened
