I do not have a recovery key, need one

My 6 month old Lenovo laptop has black screen of death. Went into recovery mode and decided the quickest solution would be to reinstall windows. I tried doing this and bitlocker keeps telling me to enter my recovery key. Since I don't have one am I now the owner of a boat anchor?Note, this machine had windows installed by the vendor.
