I cant get com port to work on laptop with windows 11

I am trying to connect reality falcon laser engraver to my laptop and lightburn software. I am using a usb a to usb c cable to connect the latop to the laser. the software that goes with it looks for a com port. In device manager I showed the hidden item and then used the add legacy hardware, ports, standard port types. i created a com 3. the software can see the com 3, but the connection does not work.any thoughts on why the com is not working?Thanks
