How to use headset as an output and input device at the same time?

My pc has 4 jacks, 1 for a headset, 1 for a microphone and 2 for external devices (I think it’s called a line-in). My headset has a microphone attached and I’m wondering what jack should i put it into? When I put it in the headphone jack, I can’t use the mic and when I put it in the microphone jack, I can’t hear anything. Is there anyway to use my headset for listening to my pc and using the mic without buying any connector cables?
