How to restore Desktop files after being deleted in the recycle bin?

OneDrive decided to back up Desktop, Pictures and Documents folders into it out of the blue despite not being set up to do so. Seeing those files in OneDrive folder I sent them to the recycle bin thinking it could be a simple shortcut as I didn't setup OneDrive to back up those folders. Realized from the back up queue that OneDrive was actually trying to upload everything. Restored Pictures and Documents files from the bin just fine but the Desktop is nowhere to be restored. I had important files on my desktop worth hours of work that I need back. The only support option is given to be writing
