How to have Desktop Shortcut to Network Drive Folder accessible to 3rd Party App such as IBM Lotus Notes ?

Is it possible to have Desktop Shortcut to Network Drive Folder visible to non-Microsoft App such as IBM Lotus Notes ?According to URL below (thanks to RYAN KEMPT SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2012) , Library is a option but requires either:Offline File SynchronizationSymbolic LinksIndexing the Network LocationManually Edit the Library File to include your network pathWindows Library – Add a Non-Indexed Location ~ The Blog of Ryan KemptIs there a better alternative ?
