How to fix a USB drive not repairing?

I have an hp USB drive and recently, my laptop detects that it's damaged. However, everytime I try to repair it using via the on-screen prompts, it just won't repair itself and would go on for hours with no bar movement at all. And in the case where it doesn't detect anything and I try to reformat it, again, no bar movement at all. Please help!
