How to fix a crash on the command prompt when in recovery mode

I'm trying to use the command prompt after rebooting into recovery in order to update a drive from MBR to GPT. After restarting the pc via Advanced Startup, when I select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt the computer restarts into a blue screen with error code 0xc00000017. I don't have any issues with crashes on this pc and I'm able to use the command prompt from the desktop after booting normally.
