I have a lot of shortcuts in my quick launch. I recently hit "sort by name"

accidentally and have to reorganize them. While moving them around, the tool

tips show for each one. I know what the icons represent and don't need to

see a tool tip every time I mouse over one of these shortcuts (it's funny

that when you mouse over the "start" button it says "click here to begin" -

really? is that what "start" means???). Anyway, I looked around online and

found advice on "turning off baloon tips" using tweakui which is not what I

want and also found setting ShowInfoTip to 0 in

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced but that

didnt' do it (yes, I rebooted). Does anyone know how to get rid fo these???

Thanks,

Keith

Thanks Paul. I know what the first 2 are for and I don't want those turned

off. I had EnableBalloonTips off a while back and found it more annoying to

have off than on. And I use FolderContentsInfoTip frequently so that needs

to be on too. I'm guessing that StartButtonBalloonTip just turns that one

off alone. That's fine. It's silly anyway like I said in my OP.

In my OP I mentioend that I turned off ShowInfoTip but that did nothing for

what I'm trying to do

I don't know what NoSMBalloonTip is or what the last one in the list is.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\EnableBalloonTips

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\FolderContentsInfoTip

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\ShowInfoTip

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\StartButtonBalloonTip

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoSMBalloonTip

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\tips\Show

Yep. You're right. None of those settings got rid of the tool tips for the

quick launch shortcuts. Ugh.

And the one for turning off the start buttons inane "click here to begin"

always resets itself back to 2.

Those .reg files did not do what the OP wanted.
