How to disable News and Interests in the taskbar without it reappearing again later.

The ability to disable the News and Interests feature does not exist. While there is an option to disable the "widgets" in the taskbar settings the feature reappears a short time later. Please provide a method for removing this feature otherwise Mint and Puppy become more and more of an acceptable replacement for this OS.
