How to choose the Folder which should not be sync BEVOR sync start and copy and copy and copy - what a strange and not correct behaviour

Dear Team,what is the reason why the sync folder can only be chosen AFTER it had already been synchronized?I need to get an information how I can chose the folder BEVOR the sync start.I have archived information in OneDrive of more GB than I need to see and work on on my PC.Why the ... is it not possible to first chose and then synchronize?That is something which is unbelievable unsatisfying.
