how to add extra email addresses to my main outlook account

I cannot seem to add extra email addresses to my main outlook account, I have tried using the web and the app . Have just got a new laptop on windows 11. I've followed the procedures, but nothing will work. I have had a message saying to do it through the app, but this ends up with the same results and they are not added to my account. It shouldn't be this difficult and so time consuming, so would appreciate any help, thanks.
