How do I reset either the administrator or my password, so that I can access and use my computer?

I was having problems with my laptop, so I decided to uninstall the last update. A restart was required, which I did. When it rebooted, it opened to a blue screen asking that I enter a password for the Administrator account or user account. I have forgotten the password I used for the administrator account, as I have not needed to use it since the day it was set up, 4 years ago. When I select the user account under my own name and email, and enter the password, I get a response that the password id incorrect and I am prompted to start again.
