How do I remove a folder/files from my back-up/synced one drive?

I got a new laptop not too long ago and synced all necessary files from my previous laptop to the new one.Now I started downloading custom content and mods for the sims 4 on my laptop. Only issue is one drive has started to sync and back-up ALL of the files which of course immediately filled my one drive storage. I don’t want my mods to be synced, there is no need for that. Everywhere i check it says I have to delete the file (documents file) from my one drive, but i’m scared that if I do that the documents folder and everything I downloaded will be deleted from my (current) laptop? Could some
