How do I fix WMP EDIT and Rate options being grayed out?

I thought that perhaps it's because I'm trying to right-click on the file within a playlist, that I might still need to add the actual file to the WMP library, and then, go right-click on it there, so as to get it so EDIT is not grayed out anymore, but I'm finding that I'm apparently not able to add any files to the library, even after having removed and reinstalled WMP and K-Lite Codec Pack Standard, when I follow the directions provided by Google AI, nothing is added to the WMP library...
