How do i fix windows vista repair asking me if i want to apply repairs and restart, then saying it failed to save the startup options?

Hi there, i have a HP HDX16 from many years ago and recently for some reason whenever i turned on the computer it said a read disk error occured, and restarting did nothing to help, the weird thing is the harddrive is in good condition and connecting it externally to my new computer crystaldisk reads it as fine, and i can view the pictures on the drive meaning it shouldnt be corrupted, but no matter what i do to repair the startup it still has a problem, i have a usb drive with windows vista repair trying to repair windows vista ultimate, but it keeps failing to save startup options, does anyo
