How do I fix broken or cracked Icons?

When using windows applications, especially MS Office, all of the icons within the application appear cracked/broken to the point where it is impossible to see what they are or what they do. It becomes even worse when I move my mouse over the icon. It is now almost impossible to use my laptop. This only happens when I launch an application and start using it. It isn't an issue navigating around the windws OS itself. This is a screenshot of the menua bar in MS Word - its the same for all other applications.My graphics drivers are up to date.
