How do I find the screen resolution option I need when using an external monitor?

Using an external monitor with my laptop (windows 11) the screen resolution option needed (3840x1080) is not available and the screen is stretched... Updating / uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, reducing refresh rate etc has not worked. Please can someone help???
