How do I edit the title of a file displayed in the Playlist pane?

Google's AI says to right-click on the file in the WMP library and select EDIT, but EDIT is grayed out. A youtube video said to go to the properties of the file itself, and edit the title within the details tab in there, but I couldn't do that either. I thought that perhaps I still need to add the file itself to the library (not just the playlist), but I don't see how to do that either.
