How do i customize desktop settings to view certain programs?

Hi, I need to change my settings so that only certain programs are viewable in certain desktops. Furthermore, I would like certain programs to show in all desktops. Currently, when i open a program that is already open in a different desktop, a completely new window opens. For example, if I have chrome open in desktop #1 and i reopen it in #2, a new version of chrome opens instead of displaying the one I am already working on. This issue applies to all programs.
