How do I add more space to a canvas in Paint 3D

I made some art in Paint 3D, and I want to add more space around it so I can draw more. However, I can't seem to be able to add more blank space. Crop only goes as far out as the image does so I can't expand the space that way and if I try to manually type in a larger crop width/length it says the value is invalid and reverts back. I can enter larger numbers in the "Resize Canvas" section of the Canvas tab, but that just stretches the image rather than adding more space.
