How can I use a bootable USB to repair (keeping all of my files, data, pictures, etc) my laptop?

Recently, when I was trying to reset and update my HP laptop, my laptop, refuses to go back to my login screen, homepage, whatever the case may be, to get back onto my projects I was working on. I would try turning it back off and on, but there would be a constant loop that is just never ending, a loop showing the HP logo and sometimes would have a statement saying “preparing automatic repair.” most times where I would be patient.
