How can I stop the corner icon messages from randomly appearing in other locations on the taskbar?

When I hover over the corner icons, little messages popping up giving info about that corner icon's purpose. In this example, we'll use the sound icon. With my mouse over the sound icon, it tells me the name of the sound device and that it is muted. That's how the corner icons should function, and that's great. However, there's a bug where these same messages will pop up when my mouse is over the taskbar but not over the corner icons. Here's a screenshot of a second place the sound information pops up.
