How can I manage to decrypt some files?

Hi! I've upgraded to Windows 11 from 10 and I had a folder which contained some notepads that had important info in them. So a while back I've decided to encrypt them using the Windows function (right click on the folder, properties, clicked "advanced" on the attributes section in the general tab and then selected "Encrypt contents to secure data". The rookie mistake I've made is that I thought that I've deselected this option before copying the folder to an external HDD so that I can transfer them back on the fresh Windows install. Turns out I didn't. Now I can't access the files. Any help? R
