How can I get Audacity and Windows 11 Pro to a compatible state so I can work?

Hello, I am using Audacity to narrate audiobooks. My old laptop crashed (windows 10) purchased Windows 11 Pro and I have not been able to use Audacity at all. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. error msgs says I have more than one Audacity running...or in Audacity I get I'm trying to save to a slow external drive...I have to recover every file. Or it says too many programs are competing with Audacity for it to work well. I'm not running anything other than the basic startup files....nothing but Audacity. None of the commands work ( not even the keyboard) I can't finish my project or audition
