How can I fix lag spikes on my pc?

For some context I have a windows 10 pro that is around for years old. Despite the age of the computer I update it frequently and all of the drivers are up to date. I’m almost 100% sure that my network isn’t the problem because when I’ve tried majority of of the fixes recommended it did not work, so now I’m trying to figure out what’s causing the lag spikes, because it happens whenever I am playing a game. Can someone please try to help me fix this issue?
