How can I change the installation folder for software?

I am getting really ticked off. For years new software downloads gave you the ability to select the installation folder for the new program or create a new one. Now there is no choice in most and it gets installed somewhere under C:\Windows\Users.I am the sole user of my PC. I expect my software to be installed in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (86). But I have to go searching through C:\Users\Admin or Administrator followed by Local, LocalLow or Roaming to find it.What benefit is that to me?Is there a Reg entry that can change this or am I stuck with a retrograde "enhancement" for which
