How can Cloning Damage the Source (read) drive?

On my old Windows 10 PC I used to regularly clone my SSD C drive to another SSD as a backup. The software I used was Aeomi Backerupper and it performed flawlessly. A few months ago I bought a new Windows 11 PC built for me. It has a 2TB NVME2.1 Kingston SSD. I decided to do cloning on the PC using the same software so I installed another 2TB NVME drive from Lexar. This one went into a 2.3 slot as there was only a single 2.1.
