Help! No sound after update

I have tried every single fix I have seen, from Device Manager, Sound etc. (my speakers are not even listed on Sound, they're gone) System Recovery (it WON'T do it - gets halfway through and stops). Can someone please tell me what I need to do? I deleted the Update that caused all this, but its' still the same. I cannot afford to buy a new laptop, prob. repairs would be $250+. HELP!!
