Headset/Mic both Recognized But Mic doesn't work

So i just got a pc from a friend and it has windows 10 home with all necessary updates and driver updates. I cannot get my headset mic to work. I can hear fortnite when I'm playing through my headset but cannot talk. For some reason the microphone does not work. Headset part works perfectly fine. I am using a splitter to plug into both the mic port and headset port. The microphone is in fact recognized as a microphone under input devices and also shows movement on the blue bar under testing, but nothing is actually working, no one can hear me.
