headphones not detected

My windows 11 PC will not detect headphones plugged into jack. I have confirmed with multiple headphones, all working on other devices. no matter which ones i use they do not show plugged in. BUT i can hear the computer boot up sounds, the audio just does not work once in windows (so not a hardware issue). i have checked updated drivers, all past events and properties. i have restarted with multiple times with headphones plugged in. read a bunch of topics and can not figure out why this simple task will not work. i also tested audio through a wireless headset and it worked, then i deleted that
