Whenever I press the power button on my computer, I get one of many outcomes. The first being that my monitors don't even turn on, and the computer just shuts off. The second is when the monitors do actually turn on, (by turning on I mean going from a black screen to showing something on the screen), but then I get a black screen that leads to nothing. The third is that it asks me to select my operating system. I have no idea why this one shows up so frequently, but there is only one option, to choose windows 7. The fourth thing that happens is a normal launch, where I am able to log in and everything works fine, until I get to my desktop. When I get to the desktop, everything is extremely slow. I mean EXTREMELY slow. When I try to open windows explorer, it can take several minutes. Another thing I notice is that the internet icon with the bars on the task bar always has a loading circle, even though I have internet and I can go on websites and such. Another strange thing is, sometimes when I load to my desktop the internet icon is not loading but shows I have internet, and then when I try to go on websites it can't connect to them.
I tried to run a virus scan in safe mode to see what was the problem. It came up with several suspicious files and even one malware, and I deleted them. After that, my computer was running really fast. Everything was working fine. But the virus scan did not solve the problem. Because here I am today with the same problems I faced before.
My computer is still extremely slow. Somehow it has reverted itself and seemed to slow down overtime since it was working fine. I tried running another virus scan and it came up with 0 suspicious files. So here is what I have tried.
- Cleaning the fan on my computer
- Updating my bios, but to no avail, as there are no updates available
- Trying to find updates anywhere I can through the windows updates program
- Disconnecting various USB devices before starting up, all lead to the same thing. Although my one keyboard was very old and when I disconnected that one I had more success getting the computer to boot up properly, otherwise it would show the BIOS menu.
And that is pretty much it. I don't want to have to throw this computer away. I have had it for almost 4 years and its a nice machine that cost a good bit. Any help I can get on this will be so greatly appreciated. Willing to run tests or whatever it takes.
