Have Office 2007 disc from collage where I teach (legal with license and

all). All fine of 32 bit HP. Loaded on brand new Acer running Windows 7 64

bit. Loaded Office Pro 2007, loaded and accepted key, all info transfered,

but when try to open any app (Outlook, Word, etc.) pop-up says I must

register, do I want to use on line or phone. When I choose online, another

pop-up says can't comminicate, try in a few minutes. (internet works just

fine). If try to select use phone, window goes away, no phone number, and

most features are locked out. Collage IT says nothing wrong with license,

it's drivers. Where can I get drivers or is it something else? HELP!

Nothing to do with drivers, did you first uninstall any Trial version & its

Activation Assistant prior to installing whtever Office version you have on

cd/dvd

Good question. What I did was before I loaded anything, I removed all

pre-loaded office trials, etc. If it had the office logo, I removed it

before I loaded my copy. I'm miffed as I could get it to work yesterday by

just clicking "cancel". Overnight the computer downloaded several items from

microsoft and now I can't get it to work with the cancel trick. Tried the

registration again only to have the same issue. "Can't communicate, try

again in a few minutes". I've tried downloading SP's and anything I thought

would help. I still believe it has something to do with going from 32 bit to

64 bit. Of couse for $45, a tech can fix it. BS... why can't I find a fix

on the web?

Thanks!

DL- Just thinking... would any preloaded and/or Activation Assistant be

called anything beside an "Office" logo item? Is it something cryptic that

I'm nor seeing? Hair getting grayer by the minute...

Appreciate any help at all. Need to make sure I'm not overlooking the

smallest thing. MS sure didn't make it easy going over to 64 bit. Too many

items need special downloaded drivers to get them to work nice.

I installed the teacher/student edition on W7 64 bit with absolutely no

problems. It doesn't sound like you have installed very much on this new

computer. Try a fresh install and use your activation code on the factory

installed Office.

MS Office & Activation Assistant are seperate entries in Add/Remove dialogue

If by 'logo item' I trust you dont refer to any shortcuts, that you simply

deleted.

Its nothing really to do with MS if you need to install 64bit drivers from

your hardware vendors sites

In addition to all the other advice/help you are getting, is this a home use

version off of a volume license from the college? If so you are qualified

for FREE assistance from Microsoft. There should be a telephone number

available on the documentation you received with the HUP version of the

software. If not there then the IT department should have a number for that

same free help.

DL- No I didn't just remove the shortcuts. :-) I know why you ask though...

I used Add/Remove and pulled anything that had the office logo in the left

side column. Anything that read "office" I removed as well. I need to go

back and look for the assistant. I guess what I was asking before was is it

under some obscure name or is it just "Activation Assistant"? Thanks to

everyone for the advice. Nice to know people still care to help.

The entry is 'Activation Assistant' whether it says Office Activation

Assitant or MS Activation Assistant I no longer remember.

You might also disable/close any apps running in your Task Bar - I seem to

recall that some preinstalled apps that auto run can cause problems when

installing Office

Okay... Now I'm really getting bugged! Came home and tried all the help

hints. I still get an activation pop-up activation wizaed window. If I try

to "register now", I get another pop-up saying "A comminication error has

occured. Your request cannot be processed at this time. Please try again in

a few minutes." The error comes up immediately. I'm downloading and

writying this, so internet is working fine. What do I try??? Already

uninstalled and reinstalled several times.

After researching several threads- it may be the copy issued to me may

have1-expired (license), 2- had load restrictions imposed (although IT says

it doesn't). I drank the kool-aid... I loaded Office 2010 BETA last night (2

1/2 hours with DSL). Works like a well oiled machine.

To Microsoft... Will you offer this to us when testing is done, or will

there be a gap from when BETA is finished and releasing for purchase? If

there is a gap- I'm screwed!
