I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on a Dell Studio XPS9100 with Intel i7 processor. When I boot up my computer, it boots up normally, then after awhile I get a BSOD error code 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000004, 0xFFFFFA800A3218D8, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000). Sometimes the numbers in parentheses vary a bit. When I shut off the computer and reboot, I get the message that the system shut down unexpectedly and do I want to start Windows in Safe Mode or Normally. I choose normally and the system reboots just fine. Usually, there are no further problems for the day until I shut down for the night and reboot the next morning. Then, the same thing. This has been happening for a couple of weeks now, but yesterday began happening more frequently during the day.
Could someone please tell me what this error code means and how to fix it?
What are the numbers in parentheses? Do they indicate a particular component of the system that is failing?
Should I be looking for a new computer?
The most recent hardware change was that I changed from a wired keyboard and wireless mouse to a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combination, but when I revert back to the old keyboard, the problem still appears. A month or so ago, I upgraded the system drive to an SSD without any issues and the problem didn't appear until much later. Also, recently (carefully and thoroughly) changed the thermal grease on the processor to Arctic Silver to help prevent overheating.
Please help! I appreciate any technical assistance you can give.
Thank you.
