I used to have the setting turned on so that every time my computer sleeps, i needed to enter a password.

i turned it off so that i could just log in and out with 1 click, because i was planning to bring it into a repair shop for service, i did not want to have to tell them my password...i dunno, i guess that was a dumb thing to do.

when i went back into sign in options

i see some new things like "setup a pin" "setup a picture password" "setup security questions"

but to access these, i need to reenter my password.

but my password doesn't work!

somehow i must have changed it at some point, because i changed my password hint and i don't remember doing it.

the new password hint i put is too cryptic, i can't remember what the hint meant,

i can't remember my password at all.

this is NOT the microsoft password!

this is the local password for my administrator account.

luckily, i am not locked out, but this is extremely frustrating because whoever programmed this, left no way to recover the password in this situation.

i tried googling it, they say i need to setup security questions, but i have not set them up yet and i have to remember the password to set them up.

the only other option i found was to reset the password by using a detachable USB drive

but i don't have one of those! I bought this laptop from a retailer and it had windows 8 installed and then i was sent a special email offer to upgrade to windows 10 through a download.

i have no official windows 10 boot disk.

i am afraid to guess the password, because the computer might lock me out permanently.

how do i recover or reset my password now
